Cat Barn

Shayla calls this old shed where her cat and kittens are the "barn". Only 2 of her kittens have a conistent name. Peewee is the little black and white kitten. One of the grey ones is Speedy because he could walk much faster than the others when he was little. The other kittens have different names depending on the day.

On the Move!

As of about a week ago Garrett is officially a crawler. His favorite things to crawl to are balls, paper and anything with wheels.

Fireflies

For all of the new biting bugs we have here in KS, at least there are some fun ones - fireflies. Jeremiah and I saw some in our front yard last night.

Zoo

Last Saturday we took the kids to the small Rolling Hills Zoo in Salina. The rhinos were Shayla's favorites. Garrett didn't seem to care about any of the animals.

Relaxing

Garrett likes to sit in my computer chair. Well actually, he mostly just likes to chew on it.

Running

Shayla wants to go running with Jeremiah all the time lately. They run up and down the driveway.

Pinkeye Update

Thankfully Garrett's pinkeye responded to the at home treatment and he didn't have to go to the hospital. However, the antibiotic he was prescribed has given him an upset stomach making him a crabby baby. Jeremiah said it would be okay to just give him the drops (it is nice to have a pharmacist around) and he is doing much better. We are very grateful to God too that no one else in the family caught it. That is really amazing, especially since Shayla let Garrett lick her popsicle the afternoon he first had pinkeye.

Pinkeye

He didn't have any symptoms yesterday, but this morning Garrett woke up with a really red eye. The doctor gave him drops and an antibiotic. His eye is so red that if it doesn't get better better by Sunday he'll have to get an IV antibiotic at the hospital. He acts ok though, so hopefully that won't happen.

You can't really tell in the pics too well, but it's his left eye. You can see all 4 of his teeth though. He's been getting them 2 at a time. And, as is apparent, he is really smiling for the camera now. He is already a bit of a ham like his sister.

Chiggers

We've found a new pest in Kansas - chiggers. I've never been around these before, but they are not pleasant. You can't see them, but as Jeremiah and I are finding out, their bites really itch. Kansas is really suprising me. I didn't think it was wet enough here for those.

Anniversary

Well, our 6th anniversary was on Sunday, so we decided to take a trip. This picture shows one of Garrett's few happy moments. After several bad anniversaries we've learned a lesson: ALWAYS get a babysitter for our anniversary.

Kittens

Shayla has been having so much fun with her 6 kittens. They're almost a month old already.

Garden

In the middle of May we planted a small garden with pumpkins, lettuce, zucchini and cucumbers. A neighbor said they can grow watermelon pretty well here too, though we aren't trying this year.

Great Grandparents Visit

On Friday, my grandparents stopped through on their way home from Missouri. They took Shayla back to CO so we could take a trip for our anniversary.

Guard Dog

This tree sits near the road close to our mailbox. Whenever I leave, Callie goes and lays by the tree and waits for me to get home. What a sweet dog we have!

Rental House

Here is the front of the house we are renting. I took it from the road. The place is on about 2 1/2 acres and is about 10 miles from the South edge of town. We only have about 1 1/2 miles of dirt road to highway 183 South of town.

7 Months

Garrett is 7 months old today. It is hard to believe he is growing so fast. It seems like his first year is going faster than Shayla's did.

I think Garrett has a higher energy level than Shayla. He can crawl a little now, though he hasn't figured out how to do it without pushing his forehead into the carpet. He can go from sitting to crawling and always sleeps on his stomach no matter how we put him down. He likes the animals a lot and tries to catch the kittens when Shayla brings them into play. Shayla is still his favorite person. Whenever she laughs, he does. Garrett already has 4 teeth. He has been getting them 2 at a time and hasn't been a very happy teether. I took him to the doctor on Monday and he weighed 17 lbs 9 oz.
